Latin Mass according to the Missal of Bl. John XXIII (1962)
Sunday 11.30am (after the 9.30am Mass)
Confessions before every Mass (11.15am to 11.28am)
Holy Family Catholic Church
Offered by Fr Andrew on the 1st and 3rd Sundays, and Fr Martin on the
2nd and 4th Sundays.
The Extraordinary Rite (also called the Latin Mass) has been celebrated by the
Catholic Church for almost 1500 years. It was the Mass celebrated universally by
the Church until the Mass of Pope Paul VI was introduced following the Second
Vatican Council.
A small but faithful group of Catholics - from young children to seniors -
attend the weekly Mass at Holy Family.
Fr Andrew Matthew, Holy Family's Parish Priest, celebrates the Extraordinary
Form of the Mass on the first and third Sundays of each month. Our former Parish
Priest, Fr Martin Bugler, celebrates the Mass on the second and fourth Sundays.
Our Masses include Gregorian Chant sung by parishioners. On special occasions,
an amazingly talented choir joins us. This most recently happened in August 2006
(see photos), when Fr Martin celebrated the Mass according to the Missal of Bl.
John XXIII (1962) before the entire parish.
The training of altar servers, "dressing" of the altar, and provision
of the appropriate garments for the priest and altar servers is the
responsibility of the Schola Servorum, a private trust. Fr Andrew Matthew is the
Spiritual Director of the Schola.
Those who attend the Mass are impressed by its beauty, reverence and history. A
Mass Book (with Latin and English) assists parishioners. Readings and the homily
are in English
All Catholics are invited to attend Holy Family's Latin Mass. It has the full
Episcopal approval of Bishop Patrick Dunn.
The Schola Servorum provides ongoing financial support to Holy Family Parish.
The Schola also provides an annual donation to the Priestly Fraternity of St
Peter in Australia (see link below) and prays that the Fraternity will in future
provide one or more priests to the Auckland diocese. The Schola has the support
of Bishop Pat and Fr Andrew in this endeavor.
For further information, please ring Fr Andrew on 834 6677 or Schola Servorum
Chairman Greg Rush on 826-1907.
Dominus Vobiscum. (The Lord be with you).
